Heracross: Bug / Fighting Type

Before Heracross heard the loud snap she knew what had happened. Her foe had charged her with his large, sharp sword and she had foolishly tried to block it with her horn. She closed her eyes tight as if doing so would reverse what had just happened, but as her head suddenly became lighter she knew there was no going back. Her lovely horn that had been by her side her whole life was now gone forever.

The single large horn that sits upon Heracross’s head is always held with pride. The larger horn they have the more respected they are by other Heracross and if it were to break most Heracross would fall into a deep depression as the horn never grows back. Some Heracross who have broken their horn will replace it with a prosthetic and often will adorn it with precious metals. Their large horns are not just used for looks, they also use them to throw foes or even spells around. They tuck their heads down and swiftly put their horn under their foe before launching them as far as they can, much like a built in trebuchet. To help stabilize themselves when throwing a heavy foe they will plant their sharp clawed feet and hands into the ground giving them a solid stance to throw from.

Heracross are born with extreme strength. They are proud creatures and will often spend a large amount of time exercising to get stronger by punching trees till they topple or sparring with other strong opponents. On top of being physically strong, they also have a hard shell that protects them from damage. They will still occasionally get bruised if their shells crack, but it is quick to heal. They also have wings, however they are not very good flyers and are only able to get a few feet off the ground. The two antennae on their head are used to help them smell around, some Heracross say they can even sense other’s power levels with them, but this has never been proven.

Many Heracross seem to prefer to make their homes in forests where they will spend most of their days growing and harvesting sap from trees. Sometimes they will work alongside Combee and make honey together, mixing it with the sap to make an even sweeter tasting treat. It is not uncommon for a sap farm to pass from Heracross to Heracross keeping the business in the family.

Heracross Traits

Allignment: Known as normally being a docile creature, Heracross rarely get upset. However they do enjoy showing off and aren't against challenging others to a fight to prove they are the best at something. They seem to have an especially strong rivalry with Vikvolt. Something about this electric bug gets on most Heracross’s nerves and they find it near impossible to resist challenging a Vikavolt to a fight if they run across one.

150 years old is the average lifespan for Heracross. They are considered to be mature at 18 years old but aren't adults till about 22. As they get older their shells become stronger and stronger with some ancient Heracross gloating they have impenetrable shells.


You can speak, read and write Common and Jthooic. Most Heracross have a deeper voice and will speak in the back of their throats. Because of this they are often sought after to be sports announcers or MC’s.


There are 30 natures, pick a nature that best describes your character. Increase and decrease the appropriate stat accordingly.

Racial Ability score increase

You are born stronger than most and your hard shell helps to protect you from the harsh world. Your Strength ability score increases by +1 and at level 7 your Strength and Constitution score increases by +1. See rules on racial ability score increase for more information.


This is the only evolution of this line. Heracross can no longer evolve, however it can mega evolve at level 15. (See Mega Heracross for upgrades)

Abilities: Pick One

Swarm: You start to limp, you can’t take a whole lot more damage, if you do then you will be done for. A thought suddenly strikes you. Maybe, just maybe you can use your old family tactic. It worked better in big groups, but you may be able to pull it off by yourself, you have to.

When your HP decreases to 1/2 of your normal health all Bug type Racial Attacks gain advantage and deal one additional die of damage.

Guts: “Is that all you got?!” You scream as you feel the poison start to set in. A little poison isn’t going to slow you down, you will just have to take a few more risks. You won’t let them win.

If you have any conditions your attacks deal 2D6 more damage to your first attack each round. The conditions ‘prone’ and ‘grapple’ are not affected by this ability.

Moxie: You stand above your defeated enemy and slowly turn toward the next one grinning. You see the panic on their faces as they realize what you have just done to their comrade. “Your next,” you say, adrenaline from your last attack still pulsing through your veins.

When you cause a hostile creature to reach 0 HP, all your damage dealing attacks deal more damage equal to your proficiency bonus for one minute. This bonus can not stack.


By rapidly beating your wings you can hover up to 2 feet off the ground. You can use your normal foot speed to move in any direction (other than up) and when hovering you are immune to ground based attacks such as caltrops. This is a temporary trait, when the sheet is finished it will be updated.

Type Effectiveness

Evolution Trait

Throwing: Your kind is famous among other bug types to fight their opponents by throwing them above their shoulders with their massive horns. While you are grappling a target, you may use your bonus action to throw them horizontally and vertically an amount of feet equal to 5 times your strength modifier. For example if you had a strength modifier of +3 you could throw them up 15 feet and over 15 feet. This is a temporary trait, when the sheet is finished it will be updated.

Heracross looked nervously around at all the slender and dainty creatures around him. He may have won the competition, but he shouldn’t have come to the afterparty. Everyone here felt too weak, too fragile for him to be around. He felt like he could break one simply by breathing on them, he had to get out of here.
